DJ Chaps started to DJ and create beats in 1990. Chaps bought his SP 1200 Drum machine and a EPS 16 Plus Sampling keyboard and began to get to work. Working with many local artists in the Boston radius. Chaps hooked up with the infamous "Illegal Bastards" in 1993. The "Illegal Bastards" hail from Springfield, Massachusetts. Chaps along side with the "Illegal Bastards" opened up for artists such as: Nas, Jay Z, Foxy Brown, Keith Murray, RUN DMC, and KRS One. Around the same time Chaps teamed with another group from Worcester, Massachusetts known as "Fossil". Chaps and "Fossil" opened up a show for the Wu Tang Clan and Capadona/Killah Army. Jason from "Fossil" battled 50 MC's live on stage and won the crown. The battle was hosted by Roy Barboza from Jam'n 94.5. Chaps also did production for an artists like Deeze and Broockus.
